Guidelines for Submission

  • Must be a female student in Grades 3-12
  • Write an mobile app that generates something different each time based on user input — screen tap, keystrokes, audio, and/or visual input.
  • The program can be written in any programming language – code.org App Lab (https://code.org/educate/applab) or MIT App Inventor (http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/index-2.html) are good options for beginners.
  • There is no limit to number of submissions per contestant, but each contestant may only win one prize per category.
  • Each entry must include a short write-up describing the mobile application and discussing how it was coded, what was most challenging, and what was most satisfying.
  • All work must be your own.

Judging

Interactive programs will be judged by a panel of computing professionals from academia and industry. Entries will be judged equally on:

  • Creativity
  • Complexity
  • Emotional Impact
  • Quality of the coding
  • Write-up

Awards

Prizes will be presented during an Awards Ceremony at Code/Art Miami. All contestants are strongly encouraged to attend, but need not be present to win. Awards will be given to the top 3 contestants in each of two age groups:

  • Lower (3rd – 8th grade)
  • Upper (9th-12th grade)

Prizes are selected both to reward effort and to encourage further exploration of coding.

  • Submitted code-based artwork will be displayed at Code/Art Miami. In the unlikely circumstance that an entry is deemed inappropriate, Code/Art reserves the right to not display it at the event.
