Inspiring Girls to Code

We Use Art to Increase the Number of

Girls Studying Computer Science

Code/Art is a Miami-based non-profit whose mission is to increase the number of girls – particularly underrepresented minority girls – studying computer science by delighting and inspiring them with the creative possibilities of computer programming. We put young women on track for future tech careers by providing welcoming early coding programs that focus on art, creativity and social good.

Our key programs include: 1) weekly CodeHER clubs for girls in grades 3-9, 2) Future Female Tech Leaders workshops for girls in grades 9-12, 3) annual coding competition for girls in grades 3-12, 4) Code/Art Fest, our annual all-day coding extravaganza held each spring, and 5) professional development for K-12 STEAM teachers, where we provide training, curriculum, and classroom support to empower teachers to introduce computer science skills to their students in a fun and creative way through Creative Coding lessons and even start Creative Coding clubs and electives at their schools.

We have reached over 4,500 South Florida girls!

Code/Art in the News

What Participants Had to Say

At Code/Art, I’ve learned to refine my current coding skills, but I’ve also learned some exciting NEW coding skills, especially in animation! Code/Art has definitely taught me a lot about coding.

Jenna Hart

Student

By opening the doors to the previously male-dominated field of coding, Code/Art inspires our daughters to explore coding, showcase their talents, and pursue careers in this growing industry.

Vilmary Perez

Parent

I’ve watched tentative students become skilled and confident as they progress through the workshops. I’ve watched complete beginners learn — in one day — to develop their own creative programs. Code/Art has made me a more experienced teacher and computer scientist.
